The list was released to coincide with college graduation season, but I’m not quite sure why. Is it to point out that grads have basically wasted the last 4-6 years of their life, or to encourage high school seniors to quit while they’re ahead? If you want to point out that dropping out is a good idea, put this article out around the time spring break ends, so I have something to show my parents when I tell them I want to quit school to be a Federal Boob Inspector in Myrtle Beach for the rest of my life.
Oh, I get it now- this is all just convoluted ploy to get Kanye West to break his silence. Putting the rookie Lady Gaga on this list in lieu of the veteran who named his debut “The College Dropout” is basically an engraved invitation for another “I’ma let you finish” moment.
BlazInAZ TV stopped by the flagship for a video interview with Rob – he talks about the background of the brand, his Livin’-N-Hip Hop roots and the business of being Fresh. BlazInAZ is a project of HaveAWonderful, interviewing trailblazers in AZ business; they’re celebrating the success of this series and the launch of UrbanSoulcial.com with a screening of “A Good Day to be Black & Sexy”.
Again proving that they’re better at making ads than Tiger is at being married, Nike just dropped this, well, perfect ad for Eldrick’s return to the links tomorrow at the Masters. It’s graceful and evocative, basically everything that Tiger hasn’t been in th etwo times he’s stepped to the mic since his scandal broke late last year, which is why instead of the golfer speaking for himself, the ad uses his deceased father’s voice.
It’s nice to see Nike Marketing (and Weiden + Kennedy?) are at the top of their game- the world will be watching tomorrow to see if Tiger’s on his game.
MTV is featuring skaters, the Retro Kidz, and graffiti artists in their new “Generation Youth” promo series highlighting what’s hot with the kids right now. And strangely enough, they discovered that kids today are into precisely the same things as 35-year-old marketing execs were when they were 15! What a coincidence!
The only one they’re missing is where the kids sit in front of the TV for hours watching music videos on…oh yeah, that’s why there’s just the three.
It’s telling that unlike most of my friends, I don’t threaten to move out of the United States for political reasons, but rather because of fast food print ads. This series from Dubai’s Tonic agency were commissioned to promote Burger King’s late-night hours with slasher movie icons. Americans got stuck with a campaign built around Diddy, and the people of the United Arab Emirates get Jason, Freddy, Chucky, and Ghostface from Scream.
These ads are beautiful, and I’m not just talking about the dead cheerleader slumped over Jason’s convertible. It’s the little details, like Jason sipping through a hole in his hockey mask, and the kid’s meal next to Chucky’s carseat. And is that the Burger King Kids Club of my youth? Jaws! Kid Vid! Wheels! I haven’t seen you in forever! That’s it, even though I don’t hate the president and am satisfied with the health care bill, I’m going to threaten to move at my next cocktail party.
Want to see more of these lovely ladies? Just use the QR reader app on your iPhone, BlackBerry or Android device. Don’t know what QR is? Read on.
QR (quick response) codes are 2-dimensional barcodes that can hold a surprising amount of information in their small, square borders. For years, Japanese companies have used QR codes in advertising to provide their customers with special promotions and sales, and the codes are turning up on business cards, saving the time and aggravation of having to hand-enter business contacts into your phone.
Recently, Facebook has been experimenting with QR codes for location-based services, a move that could take the codes from the domain of nerddom into the mainstream. QRGirls.com, however, is taking a more direct approach to motivate red-blooded American males to start using QR codes. The only way to access the nearly-nude ladies on their site is to add a QR reader to your smartphone.
I use the ShopSavvy app for Android- it’s available for the iPhone as well, and I’ve heard good things about Neoreader for the iPhone, too. ScanLife is a product that works on the BlackBerry platform in addition to iPhone and Android. Just visit your app store of choice and you’ll find the right reader for you.
If you want to create your own QR codes, ZXing has a great generator, one that allows you to make a virtual business card, map location, or web link. We cooked up a few special Bobby Fresh QR codes. make sure to check them out after visiting the ladies of QR Girls.
